No one can be objective about himself or herself. Even our closest friends and relatives have trouble describing how they see us. The Personality is the nearest aspect in your numerology chart that gives insight into this "external" you.
This is not a negative view or an attempt to hide your true self. It's a filtering device, but it can also work against you. It can be insightful to compare the meaning of your Personality and your Heart's Desire.

Your Personality is like a narrow entrance hall to the great room that is your true nature.
It is those aspects that you feel comfortable sharing with people at the outset of a relationship. With time and trust, you invite others into the deeper aspects of your nature; you reveal more of who you really are, in effect, your Heart's Desire, Expression, Hidden Passion, and other numbers in your chart.
Your Personality number often serves as a censoring device, both in terms of what you send out, as well as what you allow to approach. It discriminates in the kinds of people and information you let enter your heart and mind.
For this reason, your Personality is usually much more narrow and protective in its definition than the real you (and therefore also often the part you have the most trouble recognizing in your personal reading as being you). It can screen out some of what you do not want to deal with - people or situations - but it also welcomes those things that immediately relate to your inner nature.
Fortunately or unfortunately, this narrow entrance is the first impression people get of you. It either welcomes and intrigues them, or it causes them to lose interest.

To find your Personality number, add the numerology value of the consonants of each of your names in the same manner as described earlier in the Expression and Heart's Desire.
Remember, the letter Y can be a vowel or a consonant, depending on the adjacent letters. If you have a Y in your name, enter it here to find out if it's a consonant or a vowel.
If at any time you encounter a Master number, 11, 22 or 33, do not reduce it to a single-digit number.

Let's use Thomas John Hancock as an example
This chart shows his full name in the top left, with the values of the consonants below them
Always place the numbers for the Personality below the name in a chart.
The name Thomas has four consonants with the values of 2, 8, 4, and 1, which totals 15. Fifteen reduces to 6.
The name John has three consonants with a combined numerology value of 5
The name Hancock has five consonants, which total 3

Some numerologists will calculate your Personality number by adding the numerical values of all the consonants in your name, instead of each name separately. This is incorrect and will give you the wrong double-digit results (even though the single digit end-result does not change).
This may result in false Master numbers or hide true Master numbers, or Karmic Debt numbers, Power numbers, or other double-digit numbers that have specific meanings.
THE BEAUTY OF PATTERNS
Numerology is about patterns that are linked in intricate ways. The letters in your name are used to calculate your Transits (cycles used for forecasting). Your first name is the basis for your Physical Transit, your middle name for your Mental Transit, and your last name for your Spiritual Transit. Transit cycles are linked to your name numbers (Expression, Heart’s Desire, and Personality).
Your name numbers should therefore be calculated with that in mind. Adding all the numbers in your name in one continuous string, instead of each part of your name individually, ignores the patterns that are the basis of numerology.
