Although both are derived from your date of birth, they differ in the way you experience them. Period Cycles reflect internal stages of growth. Pinnacle Cycles represent the external influences you encounter in your life.
Perhaps the most strongly felt change is the transition from 1st to 2nd Pinnacle. This is usually a difficult time but once crossed, provides a clearer sense of direction and a firmer sense of identity. However, transitions from the 2nd to the 3rd and the 3rd to the are also strongly felt and undoubtedly stand out in your life.
Each of your Period cycles covers approximately 30 years of your life (this varies based on Life Path numbers, more about that some other time), and can be seen as stages of growth.
The Pinnacle cycles are seen more as an indication of the kind of opportunities, circumstances and environment you will encounter during certain times of your life, and are calculated by adding your Period cycle numbers in four different ways. The sum of your First and Second Period cycle produces your First Pinnacle. This strange concept deserves some contemplation.
The Period cycles require no calculation whatsoever, other than reducing the units of your date of birth to single digits or, in some cases, Master numbers. Let's use the example birth date of May 15, 1949.
The First Period cycle is the month of birth reduced to a single digit or a Master number. The Second Period cycle is the day of birth reduced to a single digit or a Master number. The Third Period cycle is your year of birth reduced to a single digitor a Master number.
The First Pinnacle is the sum of your first two Period Cycles, the Second Pinnacle by adding your Second and Third Period Cycles, the Third Pinnacle is the sum of the First and Second Pinnacle, and finally, the Fourth and last Pinnacle is the sum of First and Third Period Cycles.
