# How To Find Your Life Path Number

## What Is Your Life Path Number?

The Life Path number is the most important number in your numerology chart, because - as the name implies - it sets the direction of your life. However, the effect of this number is not always well-understood.

Most numerology enthusiasts, even professional numerologists, consider the Life Path number meaning to be unchanging, but, as with all numbers derived from your date of birth, it is dynamic; its influence on you changes as you change because of your life experiences.

Your Life Path should therefore be viewed as the most important and longest numerology life cycle, as it begins the day you step into this world and lasts until you leave.

## How to Calculate a Numerology Life Path

Your Life Path number is the same as your Birth Number; it is the sum of your date of birth.

You can use our Life Path Number Calculator, which also calculates other numbers in your chart, or you can follow these simple steps. (If you know how to calculate the Life Path, you can do it for your friends at any time, which may pique their interest in numerology.)

1. Take the month of your birth and reduce to a single digit.

2. Take the day of birth and reduce to a single digit.

3. Take the year of birth and reduce to a single digit.

4. Add those three numbers and reduce to a single digit.

## Example of Calculating a Life Path Number

1. October has a value of 10, which reduces to 1 (1+0=1)

2. We reduce the birthday 15 to 6 by adding 1+5

3. We reduce 1998 by adding 1+9+9+8 = 27, and further reduce 27 to 9 by adding 2+7

4. We now add 1 plus 6 plus 9 = 16, which reduces to 7.

This date of birth gives us a 7 Life Path, but there is an important caveat: This method only produces your single-digit Life Path number, however, if you encounter Master numbers during this process, it gets more complicated, because Master Numbers are not reduced. ## The Meaning of Your Life Path Number

There are twelve possible Life Path numbers: from 1 through 9, and 11, 22, and 33.
However, in addition to those, I also handle Life Path numbers that have a hidden Karmic Debt number separately - as far as I know, no other site offering readings and charts does that. (Karmic numbers are 13, 14, 16, and 19, and incidentally, in our example above, we encountered a 16. Our numerology readings therefore would include a separate description of the meaning of the 16 behind the 7 Life Path number found above.)

## How NOT to Calculate Life Path Numbers!

The double-digit numbers behind the Life Path number are important, because they reveal whether you have a Master Number, or a Karmic Debt number associated with your Life Path number.

They also give more insight into the meaning of your Life Path. For example, a 7 based on 16 is somewhat different from a 7 based on 25. Therefore, the calculation method must be done correctly.

Simply adding the numbers in your date of birth as they appear is incorrect. In our example, adding October 15, 1998, by simply adding 1+0+1+5+1+9+9+8=34=7, would result in a 7 based on 34, which is incorrect and not reveal the presence of the 16 Karmic Debt number.

Similarly, adding the units of the date of birth and then reducing the total is also incorrect. In our example of October 15, 1998, that would be 10+15+1998=2023=7. Again, although the final single digit is correct, the numbers associated with it are wrong.

Uncompromising and precise algorithms sets World Numerology readings and software apart from the rest. As I have noted in many of my blogs, there is a beauty and a pattern behind numerology's logic and calculations, that escapes many and, as a result, there are unfortunately sources that offer faulty calculation methods.

## Other Important Numbers Related to the Life Path Number

An important number that should be considered in relation to the Life Path number, is your Birthday number, since it greatly influences how you perceive and experience your Life Path number and is therefore usually described immediately following the Life Path number. Your Birthday number is simply the number of your day of birth.
